Core capabilities

01 / PINYIN GUIDE

Pinyin Guide readings kept

Word's Pinyin Guide comes into InDesign as-is, preferring the readings proofread in Word.

02 / WORD JOIN

Per-word and per-character modes

Word-level joining uses a 47,111-entry dictionary; in both per-character and per-word modes each character carries only its own syllable.

03 / FONTS & PAGES

Fonts and page presets

Eight pinyin fonts (RjPinyin, follow body text, Arial, Times New Roman, SimSun, SimHei, KaiTi, Microsoft YaHei) and five page presets (A4, B5, 16mo, 32mo, large 16mo).

04 / TONE COLOURS

Five tone colours

Five tone colours, shared by the ruby and the HTML preview.

05 / LONG DOCUMENTS

Flow and read-back

Long documents flow across pages and link text frames (up to 400 pages); limits and hidden text are logged; a post-import read-back self-check reports item by item.

06 / EXTRAS

Practice sheets, images, batch

One-click tracing sheets (tianzige or four-line grids with pinyin), automatic extraction of inline images at original size, and batch import of multiple Word files with a per-file summary.

Limits

Limitations

  • Runs inside InDesign; it is not a layout engine and does not alter existing layouts.
  • Footnotes, endnotes and list numbering are not processed; legacy .doc is not supported; paragraph spacing, first-line indent, justification, page numbers and headers, facing-page bleed and vertical typesetting are not yet supported.
  • Neutral-tone marking follows rules; a custom word list is recommended for exceptions.
  • Automatic flow is limited to 400 pages; limits and hidden text are recorded in the log.
  • Perpetual licence, one machine per card. Activation requires one online check; the licence works offline afterwards. Before activating on a new machine, unbind the original device.

Workflow

STEP 03

Lay out in InDesign

Long documents flow automatically and link text frames; inline images are placed at original size.

STEP 04

Read-back check

A post-import check reports type size, text width and ruby counts item by item.
